About the
Solar Forum

HVAC and solar contractors face a rapidly evolving market. A continued focus on one-and-done installations is a missed opportunity to truly own the whole home. Contractors who understand how homes create, distribute, and use energy will be best positioned to succeed in the future. At The Solar Forum, presented by ACCA and Pearl Certification, you’ll learn how to demonstrate the value of renewable energy solutions and solar certifications; stay ahead of the curve by identifying the critical intersection between HVAC, solar, and the energy efficiency industry; understand the value of doing HVAC and solar or partnering with quality trades outside your current business offerings; and ride the solar and smart home revolution to business success.

You’ll find inspiring educational sessions, innovative products, and service providers, as well as opportunities to network with contractors who are engaging in HVAC and solar to varying degrees.

Join us! Make the investment that will create a powerful ripple effect in our industry and in the communities we serve.

WHY ATTEND

The Quicker Change Occurs, The More Likely The Old Ways of Doing Business Will Fail

Times are changing. For HVAC and solar contractors, past strategies for success can no longer predict future good fortune. New refrigerants and a push to electrify heating will lead to more system changeouts. Increased adoption of variable speed compressors, whole-house ventilation systems, and other IAQ products, along with smart thermostats and other new technologies add to the complexity of HVAC work, even as designers and technicians are in short supply. The quicker change occurs, the more likely the old ways of doing business will fail.

A continued focus on one-and-done solar panel installations is a missed opportunity to engage customers throughout the homeowner lifecycle and truly own the home. Offering whole home batteries for existing and past customers is an easy entry point. At The Solar Forum, you’ll learn strategies to expand into other home services like demand response systems, EV chargers, home electrical upgrades, and even traditional energy efficiency measures like insulation.

Changing consumer preferences (and limited pocketbooks) will reward contractors who understand, communicate, and deliver lifetime value to their homeowner customers. Likewise, contractors who understand how homes create, distribute, and use energy will be best positioned to succeed in the future.

This event will help you stay ahead of emerging technologies and demonstrate the value of renewable energy solutions and solar certifications. Stay ahead of the curve by identifying the critical intersection points between the HVAC, solar, and energy efficiency industries and the value of doing BOTH or partnering with quality trades outside your current business offerings. This event is all about making investments that create a powerful ripple effect.

How can HVAC and solar contractors position themselves to profit from these trends?
Solar and stationary batteries represent a tremendous convergence - not only with each other, but also in how they interact with the largest loads in the home, such as HVAC and water heaters. The rapid adoption of electric vehicles adds an additional complexity (and opportunity!) as a family’s car will become one of the largest loads AND a significant source of electricity. A key challenge in adopting solar, batteries, and more demand flexible systems such as smart water heaters and smart variable speed air conditioners and heat pumps is customer engagement and buy-in. HVAC companies are well-positioned to have these conversations with consumers because you already engage homeowners at specific points in their decision-making process, have access to financing programs, and have the design and permitting chops to handle the project.

What’s in it for me once we get there?
You will learn how to stay ahead of the curve with emerging technologies by demonstrating the benefits of offering both quality HVAC AND certified solar by working with elite partnerships, sub-contracting, or bringing renewables in-house. You’ll find inspiring educational sessions, innovative products, and service providers, and have plenty of opportunities to network with other contractors who are riding the solar and smart home revolution to business success.

If you're a solar contractor, you probably point to the 2015 LBNL study and tell them you added $4 a watt to their resale value. If you're an HVAC contractor... Well, you may not be so sure. And in both cases, you wouldn't be quite right. Find out how owners of high-performing homes are, and aren't, capturing the value of your improvements when they sell -- and how Pearl's new Value Calculator can change the equation.
